Marty is a 1953 television play first telecast live May 24, 1953, on the Philco Television Playhouse; then made into an Oscar-winning film. Chayefsky’s story is of a decent, hard-working Bronx butcher, pining for the company of a woman in his life but despairing of ever finding true love in a relationship.
The Mother is a critically acclaimed episode of a TV anthology series from the 1950s. Played out in park benches in the Bronx, it deals with the struggles faced by worried children and aging parents while addressing issues of race and class.
