Lola's Last Dance and Astonishing Light: Conversations I Never Had with Patrociño Barela

Teatro Paraguas celebrates the work of E.A. “Tony” Mares, the late poet, playwright, professor, translator, actor and activist of Albuquerque by staging his humorous one-act play Lola’s Last Dance, concerning an old prostitute in Albuquerque’s Old Town Plaza and her encounter with La Muerte and the puppet figures of her former clients, and Astonishing Light: Conversations I Never Had with Patrociño Barela, a long epic and lyrical poem honoring the famous woodcarver of Taos whose work attracted national attention in the 1940’s and 50’s with his sensuous and fluid sculptures.
