God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza

Described as “a comedy of manners...without the manners”, The God of Carnage was written in 2008 by French playwright Yasmina Reza and translated into English by Christopher Hampton. The play enjoyed acclaim in both London and New York, earning the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Comedy and three Tony Awards, including Best Play. Set into motion by a playground bullying incident between eleven-year-old boys, the story brings together their parents for a meeting to resolve the matter. While diplomatic niceties are observed at first, as the meeting progresses and the alcohol flows, tensions emerge and tempers flare, leaving the couples with more than just their liberal principles in tatters.
