Lola's Last Dance & Astonishing Light

Teatro Paraguas celebrates the work of E.A. “Tony” Mares, the late poet, playwright, professor, translator, actor and activist of Albuquerque by staging his humorous one-act play Lola’s Last Dance, concerning an old prostitute in Albuquerque’s Old Town Plaza and her encounter with La Muerte and the puppet figures of her former clients.

Astonishing Light: Conversations I Never Had with Patrociño Barela, is a long epic and lyrical poem honoring the famous woodcarver of Taos whose work attracted national attention in the 1940’s and 50’s with his sensuous and fluid sculptures.
