Kent Kirkpatrick and Brenna O’Brien will lead a discussion on the "Suzuki method" of actor training.

Tadashi Suzuki is a Japanese theater director who has been creating original work since the 1970’s. His theatrical vision requires actors who can perform very challenging physical and vocal requirements. His work could be considered avant guard, yet comes from classical styles. Influences of traditional Japanese theater on his work include Noh and Kabuki, and the martial art, kendo. He has developed a system of actor training over the years in order to have actors who can embody his vision. This training has been popular in the US in various schools over the past 30 years. Kent worked with the Suzuki company in Japan and taught the actor training at the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee, University of Delaware, UC—Irvine, UC—San Diego among other schools. Brenna was a Suzuki company member, and Mr. Suzuki’s translator most recently.
