Actors sometimes have to get into intimate contact with another actor ... touching in personal ways. If you wonder how on earth they pull it off as authentic, learn the techniques from intimacy and movement professional, Zoe Burke (she/they). Zoe has named the Five C’s of Intimacy Design as consent, context, communication, choreography and closure. In this fascinating talk, Zoe will take a scene and show us how to use each element in a stage production, from close physical contact to fight design.
Zoe’s intimacy and fight design has been widely seen in Santa Fe theater with Tri-M Productions (Kinky Boots, Spring Awakening, Legally Blonde), Santa Fe Playhouse (Sunday in the Park with George, The Baby Monitor, On Clover Road) and Incite Shakespeare Company (Pericles, The Winter’s Tale, Romeo & Juliet, The Taming of the Shrew). Film credits include Bottom Out and Night of the Starlings. They trained with Stage Combat Dallas, Theatrical Intimacy Education, Intimacy and Directors and Coordinators (as a teaching artist), Heartland Intimacy Design and Intimacy for Stage and Screen.
