American Feminist playwriting has been growing stronger in the last three decades due to the rise of movements like #MeToo. As feminism has evolved, so the feminist playwright has evolved with it. The hallmarks of feminist playwriting are by no means only the subject matter but also the bold experiments in the form and techniques of drama. Robert “Beny” Benedetti -- actor, director and teacher -- is a three-time Emmy and Peabody award-winning film producer. He is a cherished and tireless archivist and advocate of theater, derived from his work with regional theaters around the country to the founding of New Mexico Actors Lab theater company in Santa Fe. Few are as schooled in the history and lifeblood of theater as Benedetti. He has published six books on acting and film production. His amazing biography can be found at robertbenedetti.com. This session will review some of the aspects of the feminist tradition as expressed by several manifestos.
