Theatre Santa Fe’s Celebration of Theater and Performance at El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe was a great inaugural event on May 23, 2016.
Bravely emceed by the indefatigable Debrianna Mansini (bravely because, being mostly theater people in attendance, the chatter was at times a challenge; indefatigable because, well, she just didn’t let anything get to her and she kept things moving along, once they started, with deft hand), the evening served, too, as the unveiling of the new Theatre Santa Fe website (where you are now).
It was also a chance to honor a couple of the City Different’s staunchest theater supporters: Robert “Bob” Martin, the outgoing (in both senses) executive director of the Lensic, and the director of El Museo, Maria Martinez.
“It was gratifying and exciting to see so many colleagues—from all walks of performance—along with so many theater lovers,” said Barbara Hatch, theatre instructor for the New Mexico School for the Arts and former managing director of Theater Grottesco. “The event was a success thanks to the tremendous turnout and the passionate energy of everyone in the room.”
“It was really nice to see theater friends, make new theater friends, and celebrate those that have made a difference in our theater community,” said Roxanne Tapis, president of Teatro Paraguas’ board of directors. “The website provides a great opportunity to celebrate the work we do, and will be a great way for visitors and theater aficionados to find our shows.”
Inside the New Mexico Actors Lab
Robert Benedetti leads a new theater group.
Santa Fe’s professional theater scene has waxed and waned through the years, but the upswing it is showing just now can only warm the hearts of playgoers. The newest group striding into the spotlight is the New Mexico Actors Lab, which, following a few years of tentative stops, this weekend launches a full summer season of three plays.

Created as part of Santa Fe’s Collaborative Arts Marketing Pilot Program, TheatreSantaFe.org was conceived by a group of local theatres, artistic directors, and actors to provide the city of Santa Fe with its first ever single source for event listings.
Founded as a way to celebrate theater in Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico, Theatre Santa Fe brings together the best of the City Different’s live performance companies. These include theatre venues, theatre companies, and theatre people and places: the Adobe Rose Theatre, For Giving Productions, the International Shakespeare Center, Ironweed Productions, The Lensic, Pandemonium Productions, Red Thread Santa Fe, New Mexico Actors Lab, Santa Fe Playhouse, Teatro Paraguas, Theater Grottesco, Theaterwork, and Wise Fool New Mexico.
TheatreSantaFe.org is designed to put all these entities into one convenient web-based location. A virtual meeting place where you can find out what’s going on where, who’s who, who’s where on what dates, and how to contact a theater, a company, a director, a volunteer, a space, a production. A site where Santa Fe’s rich theater community and its audience can find each other.
To be as comprehensive as we should be, though, we need your help. The site will be great if all its parts come together for the greater good. So we need your assistance—consistently—to maintain our status as Santa Fe’s one comprehensive online guide to everything great that’s going on theatrically.
