Image is Everything
By Joe Calarco
Directed by Joey Chavez
Inspired by Leni Riefenstahl’s legendary propaganda film Triumph of the Will (1934) which chronicled the Nazi Party rallies and helped to glorify German leader Adolf Hitler, Image is Everything focuses on themes of propaganda, conformity, and personal responsibility. Taking place in the present day, a group of students study the tragic events of the Holocaust. When rumors swirl on the internet about a new student in their school, a rumor that ends in his suicide, the students are forced to face the fact that propaganda didn’t just die with Nazi Germany but is alive and well in America, even in their very own school.
Anna Still Dancing
By Joey Chavez
Directed by Joey Chavez
The young patients in a live-in facility were supposed to do a performance of Romeo and Juliet as part of their Art Therapy regimen. However, on the day of the presentation they let the caregivers (the audience) know that they have secretly written and rehearsed a play about Anna, a new resident. They all have to fight their own pathologies just to perform events from Anna’s life—they do the play to let the doctors know what has happened to make Anna stop dancing. However, their real reason is different.
