THE THEATRE LOVERS CLUB PRESENTS
UPDATE: TLC finds itself in the difficult dilemma of wanting to keep our live theater going and wanting to protect our audience. We’ve decided to do “both and” for our upcoming TLC talk at Teatro Paraguas. The theater will open its doors for an in-person talk, but you must be vaccinated, wear a mask, and maintain social distance inside the theater. Don’t forget to bring your proof of vaccination and mask!
If you are at all hesitant about gathering, we will also be Zooming the talk in real time. Everyone registered for the Talk will receive a Zoom link on the morning of the 14th. We will also be recording the Talk and posting it afterwards on our YouTube channel.
For our September talk, Argos McCallum, Artistic Director of Teatro Paraguas, will give us his insight into creating a season after time out for the pandemic. “Paraguas” means umbrella in Spanish and in 2020, Teatro Paraguas provided shelter to the theater community, as Argos invited a variety of theaters to use Teatro Paraguas’ own Xerb TV channel to showcase their productions.
On July 10, Paraguas was finally able to open its doors to welcome a live audience for an evening of poetry. It was thrilling to be back in person to hear music and the spoken word. Coming up, Valli Marie Rivera will be directing Twenty-Six Miles written by Argos’ favorite playwright Quiara Alegria Hudes. Ms. Hudes is the librettist for In the Heights and the author of The Elliot Trilogy, which we saw in 2019.
Teatro Paraguas continues to serve the Santa Fe community by sponsoring Spanish classic theater, contemporary plays, local playwrights, children’s theater, as well as Flamenco and poetry readings. We look forward to hearing more about this diverse programming as Argos outlines Paraguas’ future plans.
