Two of Santa Fe's most talented costume designers chat about the process of designing costumes to fit the show and dress the actors. What's the hardest part? What's the playwright's role?
Talia Pura, Artistic Director at Blue Raven Theatre and Cheryl Dee Odom, Professor of Theater and Fashion, currently Costume Designer for Classic Theater's "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf", will present a brief program on designing costumes for the stage.
Talia is a theatre artist who has worked with most of the theatre companies in Santa Fe as an actor, director, costume designer or aerial dancer. Her many plays and short films have been shown locally and internationally. She is the artistic director of Blue Raven Theatre, producing original dramas and festivals, like Fearless Female Voices. Some costuming highlights have been “The Crucible” with Ironweed Productions, “All Too Human”, set in the 1890s, with ZProductions and several period pieces and some pretty cool lizards for The Actors Lab.
Cheryl Odom has the reputation for being one of the finest costume designers in Santa Fe, having been a Professor of Theater and Fashion at Santa Fe Community College and other places, and having worked on many shows throughout the City Different, such as Santa Fe Classic Theater's "Twelfth Night," "Much Ado About Nothing," and "Comedy of Errors" . She has been the Costume Designer for Santa Fe Playhouse and has worked on "39 Steps," "In The Next Room," and a host of other performances. She has designed for Theaterwork, Dancing Earth Indigenous Dance Company, Santa Fe University of Art and Design, The Santa Fe Opera, The Greer Garson Theatre Company, The College of Santa Fe, and the list goes on. Cheryl Odom has worked in various companies in Los Angeles, even working as a Stitcher and Craftsperson for Ron Howard Productions. Cheryl has worked in the industry for over 24 years. She is currently working on costumes for Santa Fe Classic Theater's "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?”
